Chief Officer Wilde was Senior Officer of RMS Titanic.
Appearance[]
Wilde was 6′ 1¼″ (1.86 m) tall, white male. He had short, dark hair and blue eyes. During his appearances on the show, he wore an officer's cap and uniform.
Biography[]
His first appears during the transfer of watch to William Murdoch. After the collision, Jack and Rose watch him travel with Thomas Andrews and Captain Smith as Carpenter Hutchison informs them the damage caused by the iceberg. He then appears with the other officers when Thomas Andrews informs Captain Smith and Bruce Ismay that the Titanic will sink.
During the uncovering of the lifeboats, he is seen with the other officers as they shout out orders over the steam being released from the whistles. At one point Thomas Andrews asks him where are the passengers, Wilde explains to him that they are inside the public areas because the atmosphere is too cold and noisy for them to handle. He is later seen with Second Officer Lightoller when they get permission to launch the lifeboats. Later on, Wilde is shown in charge of the lowering of Collapsible D and even lifts Rose into the lifeboat, but she jumps out as the boat reaches A-deck.
As A-deck floods he helps with trying to get Collapsible A launched, but the boat is damaged after being pushed off the officer's quarters. Wilde and Murdoch take out their pistols out to control the crowd, but Murdoch uses his weapon against a steerage passenger and Tommy Ryan who was pushed. Out of guilt for his action Murdoch salutes Wilde and points the gun to his temple, Wilde tries to stop him but Murdoch pulls the trigger and his body falls overboard. After witnessing Murdoch's death, Wilde decides to take charge and keep the males back until more women and children can get through. Caledon Hockley comes forward with a sobbing little girl saying that she is all he has in this world. Wilde allows him and the child to get into the boat. As the boat deck floods, Wilde shouts to the seamen still onboard to cut the ropes holding the collapsible and grabs his gun by holding the barrel to get the men to cut the ropes. Fabrizio pulls out his pocket knife to help and then Wilde, Fabrizio, Moody, and the occupants of Collapsible A (minus Cal, the girl, and woman holding the girl) are tossed into the ocean.
Wilde clings to a piece of wreckage blowing his whistle to signal the lifeboats, but dies from hypothermia with the whistle still in his mouth. Rose is able to remove his whistle from his mouth and uses it to attract the attention of Fifth Officer Lowe so she can be rescued after Jack dies.
Historical accuracy[]
For some unknown reason, Wilde is seen without a lifejacket during the sinking sequence. However he is wearing one in the water sequence. It is noted according to Lightoller, Wilde was wearing a lifejacket throughout the ordeal.
