First Officer Murdoch was Senior Officer of RMS Titanic.

He is first seen on the bridge of the RMS Titanic on April 11th, 1912 as the Titanic leaves Queenstown, Ireland. Captain Smith tells him to "stretch her legs."

On April 14th, 1912; he relieves Second Officer Lightoller were Lightoller mentions about the missing binoculars. He spots Jack and Rose on the forward well deck and gets a chuckle at their romantic moment. However once the iceberg is spotted, he in a panic mode tries to have the Titanic to maneuver around the iceberg. The Titanic hits the iceberg and reports Captain Smith what had happened, when he arrives on the bridge. After Thomas Andrews informs Captain Smith and Bruce Ismay that the Titanic will sink, Murdoch tells Captain Smith that there are over 2,200 people on board.

Murdoch takes charge of the starboard side lifeboats. He is seen giving orders to lower Lifeboat #7, where he is able to have the seaman to correctly lower the boat before it could tip over.

While lowering Lifeboat #15, he tries to stop a rush of more people from entering the lifeboat as it lowers into the water. Caledon Hockley tries to bribe him, but Murdoch gives Cal a look bordering on disdain and then moves off. Murdoch is willing to let Cal in but Cal abandons the idea when Spicer Lovejoy that Rose and Jack are on the port side of the Titanic. Seeing how undecided he is, Murdoch gives the order to launch the boat. Before Collapsible C is lowered into the water, Bruce Ismay climbs into the boat.

As the water gets closer to the boat deck and with the problems of loading Collapsible A with passengers, Murdoch takes out his gun and threatens to shoot passengers who won't allow women and children through. Cal tries to remind Murdoch about their deal, Murdoch throws the cash back at Cal's face saying "Your money can't save you anymore than it can save me. Get back!" A steerage passenger tries to enter the boat, only to be shot down by Murdoch. Suddenly, Tommy Ryan is pushed by a First Class passenger and is gunned down by Murdoch. Realizing that Tommy was pushed and that he killed an innocent passenger, Murdoch salutes Chief Officer Wilde and shoots himself.

His final appearance is in the dream sequence where he is in the Grand Staircase standing near Thomas Andrews as Jack and Rose are reunited.

Historical accuracyEdit

According to survivor accounts of the collision with the iceberg, Murdoch wasn't in a state of panic when he gave the orders to turn the Titanic away from the iceberg.
